SE24 Case Study

In September 2016, Sustainable Energy for South London (SE24) installed 19.25kWp of roof mounted solar PV on two churches in South London, using documents from the Pure Leapfrog LEAP suite of template legal contracts.

The two churches, Herne Hill United Church and Herne Hill Methodist Church Hall, both provide vital services to the local community and provide a home for a wide variety of community groups including toddler groups, after school clubs and exercise classes. The solar PV will help reduce the costs of electricity and therefore the costs of running the churches.

Thistles Garden Centre

In Autumn 2018, Thistles Garden Centre received a grant to install an 11.73kWp roof mounted solar PV array and an 11kWp air source heat pump. The Centre provides a safe and stable environment where adults with learning disabilities are able to grow produce that is then sold to the local community.
Melosheb School

In Summer 2018, Melosheb School in Zambia received a grant to install a 1.7kWp roof mounted solar PV array and four lithium ion batteries. The school is located in the outskirts of the capital Lusaka. This has provided electricity for the first time which has allowed for the introduction of IT at the school and also means that staff and pupils can work at the school in a safe environment after dark.
Bowden House Case Study

Bowden House is a school in Seaford that supports students with a range of complex social, emotional and mental health difficulties. In 2018 they installed a 82kW roof mounted solar PV across several of its buildings.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy Case Study

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 90,000 acre not-for-profit wildlife conservancy in Kenya. In 2016 they replaced a diesel powered water pump with a solar PV powered pump that not only enables the conservancy to monitor and manage its water usage for the first time, but local schools and communities also benefit from the use of broadband powered by the solar PV.
Plymouth Energy Community

Plymouth Energy Community are a local Community Benefit Society that aims to give people in Plymouth the power to change how they buy, use and generate energy. In March 2016 they installed a 4.1MW solar array in Ernesettle that was funded using short term construction finance from Leapfrog Finance.
Chelworth Solar Array Case Study

Chelworth Solar Array is Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy’s first solar installation. The array was developed in association with BWCE and is located in Wiltshire on low grade agricultural land. The surplus from the 1MW ground mounted solar PV array will support WWT’s social wellbeing programmes in the area and also a fund to finance fuel poverty reduction projects.
OVESCO Case Study

Ovesco Limited were formed by members of the Transition Town Lewes Energy Group to deliver a range of energy-related projects to the people and businesses of the Lewes district. In 2016 Ovesco installed two solar arrays on schools in the Ouse Valley area using documents from Pure Leapfrog’s LEAP.
Repowering London Case Study

Repowering London creates cooperatively owned renewable energy projects whose financial revenues stay with the local community. The support provided by Pure Leapfrog has enabled the group to become self-sustaining and independently deliver further projects.
Carbon Co-op Case Study

Carbon Co-op’s unique Community Green Deal programme is working with 14 owner occupiers around Greater Manchester to create a network of eco show houses, retrofitted to achieve emission reductions of 80%.
Ashton Hayes Case Study

Located in rural Cheshire, Ashton Hayes is a well knit community of about 1000 people that is aiming to become England's first carbon neutral community. The project combines behavioural change, awareness raising and sharing best practice as well as introducing technology that will supply the village with renewable energy and an income stream.
Fenham Swimming Pool Case Study

When the local authority decided to close Fenham Swimming Pool in Newcastle in 2003, it was re-opened two years later as a charitable organisation with the support of the local community. Olympic medallist Linford Christie unveiled the swimming pool’s new solar scheme in June 2012.
The Greenway Centre Case Study

The Greenway Centre is a local community and business hub in Southmead, Bristol, run by the Southmead Development Trust. It hosts a wide range of activities for various community groups, from employment and training courses for adults to exercise classes for ex-offenders and those who have had heart attacks or lung problems.

Community Energy Fund

Our Community Energy Fund drew on a credit facility from Big Society Capital, whilst funders and sponsors contributed to it through donations. The fund provided small to medium loans to UK community renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
