Our Community Energy Fund offered low interest loans to help communities, primarily in deprived areas, purchase their own renewable energy assets. The fund drew on a credit facility from Big Society Capital, a social investor, whilst funders and sponsors contributed to it through donations.
With a focus on positive social impact, the Community Energy Fund is designed to help community groups deliver their renewable and energy efficiency projects. These projects have positive social impacts in the local community and create benefits for the environment and local community economy.
Throughout the lifetime of the fund, we provided 24 loans to projects totalling £1,687,863. These projects have helped communities to address issues of fuel poverty, take ownership of community assets, and deliver community led initiatives.
